By Steven Adams — Despite a recent rally with former President Bill Clinton and an ad on behalf of his opponent that compared West Virginians to hicks, Gov. Joe Manchin is still losing ground in the most recent poll from Rasmussen Reports, which shows Republican John Raese leading the Democrat Manchin 50 percent to 43 percent respectively.

Despite a recent rally with former President Bill Clinton and an ad on behalf of his opponent that compared West Virginians to hicks, Gov. Joe Manchin is still losing ground in the most recent poll from Rasmussen Reports, which shows Republican John Raese leading the Democrat 50 percent to 43 percent respectively.

This makes the second poll this week that shows Raese regaining ground he lost last week. A Fox News/Pulse Opinion Research polls shows Raese leading Manchin 48 percent to 45 percent. Rasmussen’s poll shows a seven point spread with a margin of error of +/- 4.

This poll of 750 likely voter was conducted Oct. 19, following Monday’s debate between all four U.S. Senate candidates, including Mountain Party candidate Jesse Johnson and Constitution Party candidate Jeff Becker. The poll showed that 2 percent support another candidate, while 5 percent remain undecided.

Manchin himself remains a popular figure with a 69 percent approval rating, but President Obama’s approval rating sits at 30 percent, continuing to drive down Manchin’s overall numbers. Rasmussen says that the repealing of the recent health care reform bill has the highest support among West Virginians.

  1. Deb says:

Joe Manchin will not get my vote due to him backing Mountain Top Mining and the complete destruction of WV with BIG BUSINESS GAS drilling. Raese will not get my vote because WV needs one more billionaire filling his pockets with the blood of WV’s like it needs another Mountain Top removed. Jesse Johnson is the ONLY CANIDATE that makes any kind of sense for WV. We can’t afford another BIG BUSINESS Government POLITICIAN.

  2. I am enormously troubled about the upcoming election. When I think about everything that is occuring in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Middle East (not to mention our own economy) we certainly need a skilled leader. I’m not at all convinced that Mr. Obama or any of the Republican challengers so far have the experience or skills necessary to get the job done the way it needs to be accomplished. Being president of this country is an hugely challenging job. Do you think there is anyone out there with the experience, skill, and moral courage to do the job?
